Residents of Southwest Virginia can take old or unused medication to any drug drop box free of charge. Disposing of medicine properly protects you and your family.
Sharps must not be put into a drug drop box
Needles and other sharps are a hazard to the people who handle the bags when they are removed for final disposal. Ask your pharmacy or health department about sharps disposal instead.

The boxes above are permanent and open year-round. DEA National Drug Take Back Day is a separate twice-yearly event with temporary collection sites, often in places that have no permanent box. If you are looking for a Take Back Day site, check the DEA's own finder for that weekend — a box listed here may not be the nearest option on the day.
